Our planet is experiencing more intense heat, bigger storms, longer droughts, increased flooding, raging wildfires, melting glaciers, and rising sea levels. And yes, man-made greenhouse gas pollution is the major reason our climate is changing. It's been proven beyond all reasonable dought. This pollution leads to more extreme weather, rising costs, and worse health outcomes.

In 2015 the Town of Hyde Park adopted the New York State Climate Smart Communities Pledge in recognition of the risks climate pollution presents to our infrastructure, private property, cost of living, health, economic activity and natural resources.

The mission of Climate Smart Hyde Park is to:

Save money for the town and it's residents by using cheaper, more efficient technologies.
Increase the availability of clean, cheap, renewable energy.
Build livable & secure communities.
Lower pollution levels for town residents.
Start and support climate change responsive business and industry.
Improve infrastructure resilience.
Increase access to State grants and other resources.

Recycle old Clothes and Textiles. You can always donate clothes in good shape to the SPCA thrift store or other local thrift stores. But when they've given their all, recycle them. Clothes, fabrics, shoes, belts, etc. Use drop-off bins or schedule free home pickup.

Our Repair Cafes now include battery recycling and air-conditioner recycling. Bring your single-use or rechargeable batteries for safe recycling. Bring your air conditioners or mini-refrigerators to have their collant safely removed, and the hardware recycled.
