The Hyde Park CSC intent is to minimize Climate Change Impact. Climate change has social, financial and security impact on all. Impact is reduced in two ways:
- Reducing GHG Emissions —
Starting now to reduce GHG emissions and create permanent carbon sinks that remove GHG emissions from the atmosphere - these actions will help stabilize atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide at manageable levels and avoid severe climatic changes .
- Adapting to a Changing Climate —
Altering built and natural environment in anticipation of predicted climatic changes, or in response to actual changes, alleviate risks associated with unavoidable climate changes.
The Climate Smart Communities Task Force of community volunteers have identified, prioritized and are now initiating actions in these two classes of intervention, which will qualify Hyde Park for further certifications under the New York State Climate Smart Communities Program. This process requires the skills and assistance of many community members.
